History of Filariasis Prevalence

Last known incident/prevalence of filariasis in 1910 of Filarial nocturna detected in stained smears of sedimented blood specimens from 13 out of 224 residents - 5.33%posivity rate; 11 of 13 (84.62%) were living in the village of Inarajan located in the Southern part of the Island; rationally known. There were also reported imported cases in 1991 & 1999 (1 case each); 1999 case was from outer Islands of the Micronesia (Wuchereria bancrofti).
